Make Room in Wifey’s House for One More Baby

Friday, May 28, 2010

Friday’s Confession …

I’m in love … with my new iPhone.

Gasp!

I know, I always said there’s no more room in Wifey’s House for anymore babies but I just couldn’t help myself. Yes, I’m late to the party but now that I’ve discovered the beauty of my new baby I just can’t put her down – even when she’s sleeping. I also went out and bought her some goodies. Right, you’re not supposed to spoil babies but she definitely needed something to wear…

Pink is so her color

And something comfortable to stay close to me while I’m running …

She fits nice and snug

I also picked up a car charger and a protective screen – she’s got to stay juiced up and scratch free.

No, people, I haven’t lost my mind, ahem, totally – I just got a new baby.

My Secret for Solving Soreness

Monday, May 24, 2010

OK, well maybe it’s not a secret but its news to me.

I was planning on taking a picture for this post of me with a tall glass of tart cherry juice that one of our wonderful Race & Relax sponsors, The Cherry Marketing Institute, sent to all of the participants, but it went so fast in my house (thanks Husband for helping yourself, ahem) that all I got was this:

Me and my empty glass wishing I had more cherry juice

Believe me when I say I will get some more. I loved it and apparently Husband gave it the big thumbs up, too, because I drank half the bottle then went back for more and it was gone.

I first learned about the powerful effects of cherries after reading one of my marathon mentor’s (the wonderful Maria Bailey from BSM Media and Mom TV) tweets. She shared that including cherries in your post run or workout routine helped combat soreness, so I started tossing some in my chocolate protein shakes. Yum. Then when The Cherry Marketing Institute sent me the tart bottle of cherry juice I was hooked. It came at the perfect time, too, right before my USTA State Tennis Tournament where I was playing two matches a day for four days and training for Race & Relax and my marathon. Gasp! While I was exhausted after the tournament, I wasn’t nearly as sore as I expected and I believe partial credit goes to the cherries.

I love finding food that taste great and is good for you, too, and felt compelled to share my great find with you. Don't worry, there’s more than enough cherries for everyone. You can learn more about the nutritional benefits of cherries (they’re packed with lots of antioxidants) and the Red Recovery Routine at http://www.choosecherries.com/.

Wifey’s Got a Brand New Bag … And So Can You

Monday, March 29, 2010

It’s not often that I do reviews or giveaways but since I just LOVE personalized things and the lovely ladies at Initials, Inc. offered me their fabulous new Resort Tote with my initials on it and a $50 gift certificate to give to one of you I couldn’t resist.

I mean come on, look at it …

It’s super cute and can fit a ton of stuff! I used mine Saturday when I was running from my son’s baseball game to my tennis match then on to drop the kids at my mother’s house. It easily stowed extra clothes, jackets, some toys, snacks and I even put my purse in it so I wouldn’t have to carry two bags. Genius, I know.

I was even more excited when they surprised me with this adorable wristlet, too!

Initials, Inc. was founded by sisters Britney Vickery and Ivy Hall shortly after becoming stay-at-home moms. During that time they loved being home with their children but found that they were seeking three things; to be challenged creatively, to have time around other adults and to be able to contribute financially to their home, but they didn’t want to give up time with their young families to get it. They created Initials, Inc. to meet those needs as women and new mothers. Over time, they quickly realized that the solution that they created for themselves could be a blessing to other women, too. Initials, Inc. officially launched in February 2005. Today, it’s supporting women and families all across the country through home parties selling their customer designed personalized treasures.

As I said Britney and Ivy were gracious enough to give me a $50 gift certificate to pass along to one of you toward your own Resort Tote or another item from Initials, Inc. – they’ve got a lot of cute things. And, um, since I’m easy, ahem, this will be really simple. All you have to do is follow this blog (you can do that in my sidebar) and leave me a comment on this post so I know that you’d like to win.

That’s it! Told you I’m easy.

You have until Sunday, April 4, 11:59 p.m. EST, to enter and I will choose the winner via Random.org and announce it next week.

But, since only one of you can win my contest, Ivy and Britney have a few special deals for everyone:

SHOP: Customer Shopportunity

HOST: Hostess Shopportunity

JOIN: FREE WRISTLET – March 15 – April 15. Bonus for becoming a Creative Partner

Ok, so, what are waiting for? That $50 gift certificate is going to someone. Will it be you?

Pomaritas Anyone?

A Sneak Peek Inside Wifey’s House

I like pomegranate juice. Who knew?

I didn’t. It’s always been one of those things I just assumed I didn’t like, so when the good folks at POM Wonderful offered to send me some I daringly said yes – and hoped that I would like it. And I did. Not just ‘cause I mixed it with tequila, ahem, but I drank it straight, too. And it was delightfully yummy.

Then I went to their website and saw a new study indicates the antioxidants found in Wonderful variety pomegranates can speed muscle recovery and reduce soreness after exercise and I was sold. It taste good and can help me in my quest to get fit and healthy – and it’s the bomb with tequila – yup, sounds like some super-juice to me.

Speaking of tequila, since it was Friday I decided to make a little drink for me and Husband with my new best friend POM Wonderful. I might as well be healthy while I’m indulging in a little weekend cocktail. Here’s how that went …

Husband liked it, too. I was really proud of my bartending skills because I normally stick to beer and wine, but this might be my new splurge-on-a-cheat-day specialty drink.

Here’s the Pomarita recipe I used from their website:

1 oz. freshly squeezed pomegranate juice* or POM Wonderful 100% Pomegranate Juice
1 oz. tequila
1 oz. Cointreau (I used Triple Sec)
3/4 oz. fresh lime juice
1/4 oz. simple syrup (equal parts sugar and water dissolved together in cold water)
Salt and lime for garnish (optional)

It was super easy. Just mix everything together with ice in a shaker and you’re good to go.

Thanks to lovely folks at POM Wonderful for introducing me to 100% pomegranate juice. I had no idea that I was missing out. Are you?

POM Wonderful sent me a case of 100% pomegranate juice but did not pay for this post or my opinion. My thoughts, likes and drink choices are all my own.

A Sneak Peek Inside Wifey’s House

After enjoying a wonderful Christmas with family and friends, and a much needed break the following day, we at Wifey’s House were up and into things again over the weekend. Yesterday, while Husband took Miles to see his first professional football game, Milan and I stayed behind to have a little Princess Tiana pamper party compliments of Carol’s Daughter.

Yes, I’m a football fanatic, too, but there were only two tickets to be had and Milan and I would rather pamper ourselves silly than scream at missed tackles and touchdowns. And that’s exactly what we did. Well, sort of. Milan got the best of this little spa day with some of the products from The Magical Beauty Collection by Carol’s Daughter celebrating Disney’s newest animated film, “The Princess and The Frog” and their first African American princess, Tiana.

Little girl was super excited to put on her new CD, “Disney The Princess and The Frog: Tiana and Her Princess Friends,” and get her hair washed and condition in a bubble bath using products with her favorite princess on the bottle. “I know her, Mommy,” she reminds me, and everyone else, that she and Princess Tiana are best buds.

I was super excited because of the natural ingredients and quality that’s synonymous with Carol’s Daughter products. And, I’m pleased to say The Magical Beauty Collection delivered. Each product features an inspirational message tying-in the values and lessons that Tiana learns in the movie. As a mom trying to instill high self-esteem and positive messages into the impressionable mind of a six year-old, I LOVE that. We tried the shampoo (The Beauty Within), the conditioner (Inner Shine) and the bubble bath (Sharing Means Caring). They all passed my little diva’s smell test (she won’t get near anything that is too fragrant or even mildly offensive) and mommy’s safe test (everything was natural, gentle and left her clean and happy).

Princess Milan after her day of pampering

We were having so much fun we decided to paint her nails ...

… and toes, too.

Thanks to our good friend, Ron, for giving Husband and Miles the tickets to get out of the house so Milan and I could enjoy our princess time; and a special thanks to Carol’s Daughter for sending us The Magical Beauty Collection. Little girl is ready to make princess pampering part of her regular routine.

Me Time: Shower Yourself Beautiful

Monday, June 22, 2009

Last week I posted about stepping up my game. In that I talked about being the best that you can be and taking some “me time,” so when I received an e-mail asking if I’d be interested in receiving Suave’s Shower Yourself Beautiful pack featuring the new Suave Naturals Wild Cherry Blossom Indulgent Body Wash I thought, "they must’ve read my mind and knew that I was searching for an excuse to lock myself in the bathroom.”

So that’s exactly what I did. I put the kids to bed, lit a candle and took advantage of the opportunity to take a little time for me. I have to admit, the folks at Suave caught my interest with the name (anything with “wild,” “indulgent” and “body wash” in it gets a second look – ahem), but they really had me after reading some of Actress Holly Robinson Peete’s tips on making the most of life’s little indulgences that include having an at-home spa day, sending yourself flowers and scheduling some tea time to take a break during the day. Understanding that we ladies are working hard and need to take care of ourselves mirrors my mindset.

There’s just something about feeling clean, soft and smelling lovely that can totally elevate your mood. Not only did Suave Naturals Wild Cherry Blossom Indulgent Body Wash do all that; but it made me slow down and take a little time for me. Love that.

Now, the fun part – I’ve got goodies to giveaway! Suave was kind enough to send me a special gift pack of products, including the new Suave Naturals Wild Cherry Blossom Indulgent Body Wash, so that one of you can Shower Yourself Beautiful, too.

I know you’re all busy so I’ll make this simple. Here’s how to win:

Follow Ask Wifey! Click on the follow button to the right or the RSS feed and subscribe to this blog.

Visit the Shower Yourself Beautiful sweepstakes site to enter to win one of the many fabulous prizes they’re giving away daily.

Leave me a comment letting me know that you would like the opportunity to lock yourself in the bathroom for a little “me time,” too.

Easy, right?

Do all three and you get three entries to win. Follow me on twitter, tweet out a link to the contest and I’ll throw in a fourth entry. Don’t forget to tell me what you did so I can count them all. The contest will stay open until Sunday, June 28 at 11:59 p.m. and I’ll announce the winner (chosen via Random.org) the following day.

Mmm, I can still smell the subtle sweet scent of cherry. I think some more “me time” is in my near future. How about yours?
