Friday’s Confession: I’ve Got a Crush on Buzz

Friday, October 15, 2010

Friday’s Confession …

I’ve got a crush on Buzz Lightyear. Not really, but I fell in love with Disney On Ice’s Toy Story 3 when I attended the show at Phillips Arena in Atlanta on Wednesday. It’s not like someone had to twist my arm to get me to go since I’m a princess and all, ahem, but I didn’t realize how much fun I would have. When I was invited to attend I thought the kids would love it, and they did, but secretly they were my cover so I could go and get my inner child on – guilt free.

The night started with a private meet & greet where several Atlanta-area bloggers and their families enjoyed food, arts & crafts and of course some personal time with Buzz and Woody.

Somehow Miles always seems to find the food

Milan and The ChatterBox’s mini-me coloring before the show

My heroes! Yes, I really took a picture with them. Don’t worry the kids did, too.

My guys making real Mr. Potato heads

Baby girl and her creation

After the reception we headed down to our seats to see the show.

We should’ve brought our skates ‘cause we were on the ice!

All of the characters looked awesome and the skating was impressive.

I was thrilled to pieces when my girl Minnie made an appearance.

I think Christie and I were having too much fun.

Kudos to the folks at Disney On Ice for a wonderful production and thanks for treating me my kids to an awesome night of family fun.

Sidelined and Spreading The Love

Wednesday, October 13, 2010

I’m 17 days away from running my first marathon and I’m in taper mode – meaning I’m cutting back on my miles to rest for the big day. In addition to tapering, my foot is still sore so I’m resting a little more than I’d like to.

I want to run, dammit, but I know I need to slow down so I’ve been in search of a little motivation. Fortunately, in the blogosphere motivation is easy to find. One of my favorite bloggers, Bobbi from NHerShoes ran the Chicago Marathon last Sunday on 10-10-10. In her recap post she takes you through race day so perfectly that if I wasn’t a runner I would be now.

Need a little motivation to get moving? Check out Bobbi’s post here.

Make sure to do something today to take care of you.

Blogalicious Weekend: The Beach, The Bling and The Booze

Monday, October 11, 2010

I spent the past four days at The Blogalicious Weekend in Miami at The Ritz Carlton South Beach and in four words - I had a blast.

The conference brought together approximately 200 women to celebrate the diversity of all ethnicities in social media. And celebrate we did. We also networked, learned, laughed, bonded and created memories that we’ll hang onto until Blogalicious 2011. I had the privilege of speaking on The Chronicles of Fit Divas panel and enjoyed the awesome dialogue and real talk we had with the audience. Thanks to everyone who came out.

The Beach
So, I was staying on South Beach and there was no way I wasn’t going for a run while I was there.

My pre-run pic. Trying to be fabulous – it is South Beach

There’s a path that goes horizontal to the beach that I started to run along, but my foot quickly began hurting – that damn because of my plantar fasciitis – so I decided to slow down and just walk.

The path

The beach

The Bling
Yes, the swag at the conference was in full effect. There were lots of great goodies and everyone seemed to handle it in very good taste, but one swagadocious item really stood out.

Bling, Bling – Gasp!

This gorgeous Fossil watch was given to all the attendees from the wonderful folks at Feeding Your Dreams at Sunday’s breakfast. I haven’t worn a watch in years, but um, now I will be rockin’ this one.

The Booze
That sounds so harsh. It wasn’t booze. It was wine, and lots of it.

Nice, right?

My BlogRollin’ partner, Christie, and I had the pleasure of working with The Wine Sisterhood at Blogalicious where they debuted the newest wine in their Middle Sister line, Sweet & Sassy. Throughout Saturday we hosted the Sassy Suite were conference attendees could come and meet the newest sister, sip a little wine and enjoy some yummy snacks. Needless to say the Sassy Suite was a huge success – good people, good conversation and good wine. We even gave away an iPad, gasp! Jessica hasn't put it down since she took it out the box.

Me, Christie and Sweet & Sassy

I’m trying hard to get back into the swing of things today. My mind and body think they’re still in South Beach, but my family and my inbox disagree.

SPA Week: Massages, Energy Healings and Relaxation - Oh, My!

Thursday, October 7, 2010

I’m running a marathon in less than a month, Gasp!, so when the lovely folks at Spa Week offered me the opportunity to indulge in a full body massage and energy healing I almost ran out the door - literally! Logging all these miles has been hard on my body and it definitely needs a little TLC.

Last week I visited The Steve Hightower Artists’ Salon in Buckhead, a luxury salon offering hair services; skin and body treatments; manicures and pedicures; laser hair therapy; extensions and more. I opted for a half-half deal - a 30 minute full body massage and a 30 minute energy healing.

David, my specialist, was phenomenal. I think he had magic in his hands. Seriously. He started with the massage and worked every kink out of my muscles. He paid extra attention to my feet, legs and hips - ahem - and refreshed them like I haven’t walked a mile.

Afterwards he started the energy healing - something I’ve never had before. If I wasn’t paying attention I might have mistaken it for a soft massage. It was subtle and equally relaxing. David told me he works with Chinese medicine, combining four different methodologies. He also likened it to acupuncture without the needles.

An hour later, I was sipping on a cool glass of water wishing I had a driver to take me home - yes, I was that relaxed! Fab-u-lous!

If you live in Atlanta Spa Week is taking place October 11-17. Not in the ATL? Spa Week is happening in several cities nationwide, you can learn more about it here.

Speaking of relaxing, I’m down in Miami this weekend at the Ritz-Carlton in Southbeach for The Blogalicious Weekend Conference. I’m speaking on The Chronicles of Fit Divas panel tomorrow with my BlogRollin’ partner, Christie, and the fabulous Barbara Gomez.

Yes, I’ve got my running shoes with me even though my foot’s still a little sore. A few miles on Southbeach just might be what the doctor ordered.

The massage and energy healing were complimentary, however my opinions and thoughts are all my own.

Celebrating 21

Monday, October 4, 2010

I’ve sometimes talked about revisiting 21, but I always meant the age, not miles. Well, after logging in 21 miles this Saturday, I definitely wanted to celebrate like it was my 21st birthday. To say I was excited would be an understatement. Not only is it my furthest distance, but it’s my last long run before my first marathon – the Marine Corps Marathon on Halloween. I get to taper now and scale back the miles and my body truly appreciates that.

My morning started at 4:40 a.m.

My pre-run food – a banana and a peanut butter sandwich. Got to have some energy!

We began at 5:30 a.m. and did 2:1 run/walk intervals the entire way. I actually wasn’t scheduled to do the 21 until this upcoming weekend, but I will be in Miami at Blogalicious so I had to get it done early. I was thrilled that four folks from my running group offered to go the extra distance with me and knockout their 21, too! Company on a long run makes all the difference!

Michael, Me, Bo, Jamie and Doug – Everyone finished strong!

Post-run pic. Still smiling.

Immediate recovery food. I think I’m addicted to Lara bars.

So, how do I feel? Accomplished. Excited. And, a little beat up. The distance is starting to take a toll on my body. Ironically, my bone spur is not an issue, but my left knee started hurting sometime after mile 10 and my right heel is really sore. Fortunately, I have an appointment with a podiatrist tomorrow and plan on taking it easy this week.

21 done and 26 days left.

Thirty Days Away

Thursday, September 30, 2010

I’m 30 days away from joining the exclusive 26.2 mile club.

Gasp!

Even after putting in months of training I still have some what-the-hell-am-I-doing moments. When I look back at my life ten years ago you couldn’t have paid me to run a marathon – or even down the street. Ahem. Now, not only have I coughed up some significant bucks to run (training, shoes, race fees, travel accommodations, did I mention shoes?) I can’t imagine myself not running. The energy I feel after short runs is necessary to get me through my hectic days and the sense of accomplishment I feel after logging long runs is pretty indescribable. It’s a confidence builder in so many ways.

I plan on enjoying every moment leading up to and during my big race. And, yes, afterwards, too. They better have some beer. Just kidding. Sort of.

Speaking of shoes, this week I bought some new running shoes to take me pain free across the finish line. My old ones were way too worn.

Aren’t they pretty? Well, not really, but they feel fantastic.

I’ve been breaking them in all week to prepare for my longest run before I taper – 21 miles. So, my feet are stylin’, now I just have to figure out what the rest of me is wearing …
