A Sneak Peek Inside Wifey's House

One of my fellow Princesses doing the run with me at Disney asked me how I feel.

Accomplished.

Tired.

Excited.

Giddy.

Tired.

Exhilarated.

And, a little crazy, ahem, but mostly I feel proud and inspired; and I hope that can rub off on someone else, too. Trust me when I say if I (the former self-proclaimed, and family confirmed, laziest person ever) can do it, so can you!

Wife, Mother, Writer and Tennis Champion

A Sneak Peek Inside Wifey’s House

We are the champions … of the world!

Ok, well maybe not the world, but my USTA 3.0 Business Women’s Tennis team are Atlanta City Champions! That’s right this past Saturday morning we won four out of five matches earning us the city title and a spot in the state championships this May.

This is my first year playing with the McGhee Super Slammers and I have to say it’s been phenomenal. Whoever says women can’t play nice together and support each other hasn’t met this group of gals. As a newbie to the team they all made me feel extremely welcome and have truly helped me elevate my game.

My championship goodies

While I'm not quite headed to Wimbledon, yet, I'd like to send a huge thank you to Shannon, our fearless leader, and to all the ladies! Here’s to hitting the courts and winning the next round …

Love Don't Live Here Anymore

Wifey’s Q and A

Dear Wifey:

I have been married for eight years to my husband and we have three beautiful daughters. I found out that my husband had a year-long relationship with a college friend he had not seen in about 12 years. I have forgiven my husband but I seem not to get past the hurt and how I found out. We are going to counseling but It's like we are not going anywhere with it. I am so disconnected from him. I am not in love with my husband. I do care for him but I can say love does not live here in my heart. I am trying to put the pieces back but have much lack of effort from him. I have spoken to him and have written letters to him about my feelings but it does not move him to fix the relationship. I’m wondering should I stay or go?

- Mrs. Conflicted

Dear Mrs. Conflicted:

I applaud your effort in seeking counseling and trying to put the pieces back together in your relationship. I am big supporter of the institution of marriage, of counseling, and trying to make things work, but sometimes couples have to face the reality that it might be better for the entire family, children included, if they separate. Unfortunately, no one can tell you when it’s time to leave your marriage but you.

It must be difficult to try to heal your heart and move past the pain when your partner is not putting forth any effort. It takes two people to save a broken marriage and though you might like to, you can’t make him come to the table. Perhaps you might consider some counseling sessions on your own to help you decide if you are ready to end the marriage. A counselor could also help you figure out if the love is truly gone from your heart or if it’s the hurt talking; and help you prepare your next steps if you decide to leave.

I’m not certain how long you’ve been faced with your husband’s infidelity, but I do suggest that you give yourself some time to deal with your feelings. Follow your heart, your head and your gut. Women were blessed with strong instincts; don’t be afraid to use them.

I Believe in Magic

Tuesday, February 16, 2010

I believe in magic – Disney magic.

When I registered to attend the Social Media Moms Celebration at the Walt Disney World Resorts I knew that $350 was a small price to pay for all the fun and surprises the good folks at Disney would have in store. Already having a great relationship with my Disney friends, I was certain they would sprinkle pixie dust all over the place and neither I, nor my family, were going to miss it!

Not to be cliché, ahem, but the conference was truly magical. It was the perfect combination of good information, enlightening speakers, exciting entertainment and plenty of time to enjoy the parks. We kicked things off Wednesday night at ESPN Wide World of Sports with a media conference and Tailgate Dinner Party for the entire family. Thursday morning Guy Kawasaki taught us how he uses Twitter as a marketing weapon; then we celebrated the contributions of community volunteers at Epcot where we were able to do some volunteer work ourselves. Disney is celebrating volunteerism with their Give a Day, Get a Disney Day initiative that offers one Disney theme park ticket for a day of community service. We ended the night at a dinner party in Epcot where Joe Jonas and Demi Lovato performed their new single “Make a Wave.”

Friday our families played in the parks while we were treated to a day of inspiring speakers including Maxine Clark, Founder and Chairman of Build-A-Bear Workshop; Marissa Jaret Winkour, Tony Award winning Broadway actress and TV star; supermodel and business mogul Kathy Ireland; social media guru Chris Brogan; and comedian Maryellen Hooper. We wrapped up the day at a private party at Disney’s Hollywood Studios where they opened the Toy Story Mania attraction just for us to ride over and over and over again – my high score was 119, 000.

In addition to all of that, they spoiled us. The resort, the Polynesian, was fabulous. The food was scrumptious. They showered us with goodies from laptop bags to pretty pink jackets to watches and game sets. When it rained they handed us umbrellas. On a cold evening they passed out hand-warmers. Disney magic at its finest. However, I’m confident that if you ask any attendee, the prize possession would have to be the special media Fast Pass that allowed us to skip the lines at all the parks and ride the attractions immediately. Ooh, it was priceless.

Kudos and many thanks to the wonderful folks at Walt Disney World Parks for putting on such phenomenal conference; I’m already counting down the days until next year.

I'm a 10

A Sneak Peek Inside Wifey’s House

I’m a 10! Well, not really, more like I’m at 10. 10 miles. Yesterday I did my longest run so far in preparation for Disney’s Princess Half Marathon next month. I’m just 3.1 short miles away from the race’s length and 25 days from the race itself.

To say that I’m excited would probably be an understatement. And, to make things even better, I’m headed down to Walt Disney World this week for the Disney Social Media Moms Celebration. Not only will I get to experience some Disney magic with more than 100 other social media moms and their families, I’ll get to preview the course and get my race day face on!

I’m not sure if I’ll do any running while I’m there, except from Magic Kingdom (my favorite) to Animal Kingdom to the beautiful Polynesian Resort to … well, you get the point; but that's OK, after breaking 10 I think my feet could use a little rest.

Feeling Red

Friday, February 5, 2010

Do you know the single leading cause of death for women? Nope, it’s not breast cancer. It’s not lung cancer, car accidents or death by insanity because our family, friends and work pull us in fifty-million directions.

The single leading cause of death for women is coronary heart disease – and it’s often preventable. Taking care of yourself by exercising, eating healthy, monitoring your blood pressure and cholesterol, and not smoking are just a few of the things that you can do to lower your risks for heart disease. As wives and mothers – the center of our families – it’s crucial that we stay strong and healthy not only for ourselves but for our children, too. The best way to teach them good habits is by doing them ourselves.

Today is National Wear Red Day. Millions of people all of the world will be decked out in red to help bring awareness to this deadly disease. To learn more visit Go Red For Women.

I’m feeling Red today … how about you?

Award-Winning Writer

A Sneak Peek Inside Wifey’s House

There’s an award-winning writer at Wifey’s House and um, it’s not me. It’s Miles. Remember the story that he wrote when he was channeling little Eddie a couple of weeks ago? Yes, the one where he chronicled our trip to White Water and shared some embellished details, ahem, about his sister’s behavior. Well, apparently his teacher thought the story was “so creative” that she entered it in the school’s writing fair – and it won.

Miles’ story and trophy

That’s right, my 8-year-old is an award-winning writer. The story took first place for the third grade and was just entered into the county competition. Not only did he receive this spiffy little trophy but he got to read his story to the entire school on its morning news. Miles came home that day beaming with a big ol' grin on his face from ear to ear.  Eventually it faded, but my smile is still shining bright enough for both of us.
